The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is launching a partnership with Read Aloud 15 MINUTES, a national organization that works with schools and communities to increase the time parents spend reading to children.
Read Aloud’s key messages, including babies are born learning and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers, align well with the GLR Campaign’s approach. We know that reading, talking and singing to children in the critical early years can help them develop the vocabulary and word sense they need to master reading by the end of third grade. Yet research shows that fewer than half of U.S. children hear a bedtime story every night.
We encourage the communities, states and partners working with us to:
- Sign your organization up as a partner on Read Aloud’s web page. This will put you on the list to receive updated talking points, activity suggestions and social media posts.
- Explore Read Aloud’s Partner Tool Kit, which gathers resources in an easy-to-use library, giving every partner more ways to reach out to their constituents, their communities and the media. You will have access to posters, stickers, letters to parents, an infographic, calendars and a template press release.
- Use the celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 3 and activities throughout March to emphasize the important role parents play in building early reading skills.
